CARES Application Packet - You can download the entire packet or, if you know what track you are interested in, download the section that is applicable to you. The online packet does not include the CARES Application; it only has information about program requirements. All applicants MUST attend a CARES orientation to complete an application and receive additional information about program requirements. APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED BY MAIL OR FAX.

- Application Packet Introduction
- Track 1 - Family Friends and Neighbors: intended for family, friend and neighbor caregivers (FFN) caring for children from one family other than their own
- Track 2A - Entry Track (College Units): intended for licensed and license-exempt family child care home providers and center-based staff who have less than 6 ECE units. The goal of this track is to earn 6 units in ECE and begin earning a Child Development Teacher Permit and/or an AA degree in Child Development or a related field.
- Track 2B - Entry Track (Training Hours): intended for licensed and license-exempt family child care home providers who have earned less than 6 ECE units. The goal of this track is to earn professional growth hours that help prepare you to earn college-level ECE units and begin earning a Child Development Teacher Permit and/or an AA degree in Child Development or a related field.
- Track 3 - AA Degree: intended for licensed family child care home providers, family child care assistants or center-based staff who must be working toward an AA degree in ECE/CD while attending an accredited community college.
- Track 4 - BA Degree or Graduate Degree Track : intended for licensed family child care home providers, family child care assistants or center-based staff who have earned their AA degree (or educational equivalent) and are taking classes required for a BA or Masters/Credential in a field related to ECE/Child Development at an accredited college or university. The Credential must be an Early Education Credential (as available) or Multiple Subject Elementary School Credential.
- Track 5A - Professional Growth: intended for licensed family child care home providers, family child care assistants or center-based staff who have earned a BA degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field and are continuing their professional development through training and through professional development activities.
- Track 5B - Professional (ECERS): intended for licensed family child care home or center-based staff who hold at the minimum a Master Teacher Permit or a BA Degree that are interested in taking a leadership/advisor role in their classroom, child care center or among their peers. The Track 5B participant is also interested in conducting environmental assessments and supporting peers in improving the quality of care provided.

Education Planning Portfolio -
The Education Portfolio is a comprehensive goal-setting tool that documents past, present, and future educational pursuits, guides early care and education professionals through their educational path, and assists in identifying educational goals. The Education Portfolio will assist you in identifying the coursework you will need in order to be considered for a CARES stipend. It serves as documentation of the coursework that you have completed or intend to complete. This document is a requirement for the Sacramento CARES program but is not an official Education Plan. This document does not substitute for information required by community or 4-year colleges or the Child Development Permit Matrix. Always consult with a college counselor to ensure that you are on the appropriate educational path to reach your desired goals.
The Training Portfolio is a comprehensive goal-setting tool that documents past, present, and future training pursuits, guides early care and education professionals through their training path, and assists in identifying goals. This Training Portfolio will assist you in identifying the coursework or training you will need in order to be considered for a CARES stipend.
