Child Action, Inc. offers a free referral service to parents living and working in Sacramento County. As the state mandated Child Care Resource and Referral Program, Child Action, Inc. maintains a referral file of licensed and licensed exempt child care centers and licensed family child care homes. Information on each facility’s schedule, rates and program is maintained and updated regularly by our Information Specialists, who are fluent in the English, Spanish and Russian languages. In addition, state law requires that we remove any facility from our list that has been issued a temporary suspension order, has its license revoked, or has been placed on probation.

You may access information on child care providers in our files in several ways:

  1. Call our office at (916) 369-0191 to speak with a Child Care Information Specialist during our normal business hours. They will be able to talk with you about your child care search and provide you with a listing of providers as well as useful information to consider while selecting care.
  2. Email our office at info@childaction.org. A Child Care information Specialist will review your request and contact you. To help us best meet your needs please enter “Child Care Referrals” in the subject line and let us know your address and/or zip code, age of child(ren), and the hours you need the care.
  3. Access our online referral services by clicking on the "Begin Child Care Search" button below.

Steps for Selecting Care:
During your child care search, interview several providers and keep these five simple ideas in mind: Listen, Count, Look Around, Ask Questions and Be Informed.

  • LISTEN to your instincts. If you are comfortable in a facility, chances are your child will be too.
  • COUNT the number of children to be sure there are enough adults present. Providers who believe in quality will urge you to.
  • LOOK AROUND and compare programs, because they know that finding the right provider is important to you and to them.
  • ASK QUESTIONS about the day to day care of your child and the provider’s licensing history.
  • BE INFORMED about the caregiver and the current licensing regulations for child care.
