What is Child
Action, Inc.?
Child Action is a private, nonprofit corporation created
in 1976 to promote the healthy growth and development
of children and families in Sacramento County. We are
funded by the State Department of Education, Child Development
Division, the Federal Government and the County of Sacramento,
to provide services and subsidies to income-eligible
families for child care and development services. Services
include child care resources and referrals, child care
subsidies, recruitment and training of child care professionals,
and parent education and support.

How
to Contact Us
We have five locations
throughout Sacramento County. If you are a parent or
provider on the program, please contact the office where
your case is located. For general information or for
a child care referral, please call 916-369-0191.

Services
for Parents
Child Care Subsidies
- Child Action, Inc. pays all or a portion of the
child care costs for eligible families. If you are
currently on cash aid (welfare) and have need of child
care services, contact your worker at the Department
of Human Assistance and ask for a child care referral
to Child Action, Inc.
- If you have been discontinued from cash aid (welfare)
within the past 24 months, you may be eligible to
receive child care subsidies. Call our Assessment
Unit at 916-361-0511 for further information.
- If you are interested in receiving child care subsidies
and believe your family may qualify as low-income,
you may call 916-361-0511 and ask about our waiting
list and eligibility criteria.
Child Care Referrals
If you are looking for a licensed child care provider,
you can call our Referral Line at 916-369-0191. We
can give you a list of child care providers that meet
your criteria. Please be advised that Child Action,
Inc. provides referrals appropriate to a family's
home, work and school locations, ages of the children
and family income based on information received from
both the parent and the provider. Child Action, Inc.
does not inspect or warrant the condition of any provider's
facility or the quality of supervision the children
receive.
Parenting Education
Child Action, Inc. respects the role of the parent
as the first teacher of their child(ren). Our services
are designed to support and empower the parent in
this role. Those services include:

Educational Materials
Child Action, Inc. maintains a library
of resources available for loan to parents, teachers,
child care providers and other child care professionals.
The library contains books for adults and children,
videos, articles and other resources of interest to
anyone involved in child care and development.
Child Action, Inc. publishes handbooks and articles
regarding all facets of child development. For a complete

Services
to the Community
Child Action, Inc. provides services to the community
on child care and issues related to child care including:
- Speakers on child care, parenting and public policy
- Advocacy for children, families, and child care
providers, on the local, state and federal levels
- Coordination, communication and facilitation between
community agencies, public officials, and child care
providers
- Information to public boards, commissions, school
districts, planning councils, city and county departments,
and the media
- Collection and dissemination of statistics on child
care supply and demand
Specific on-going community education services include:
Family Child Care Home Orientations
The Child Action, Inc. staff makes presentations
at Family Child Care Home Orientations for potential
providers each Wednesday at the Sacramento County
offices at 7171 Bowling Green Drive. The presentation
includes an explanation of Child Action, Inc. services
and how to get onto our provider referral program.
Child Care Center Orientations
The Child Action, Inc. staff makes presentations
at Child Care Center orientations for new providers
on the second Wednesday of each month. Potential center
providers come from all over the state to attend these
orientations, so part of the presentation is to make
the participants aware of other Resource and Referral
agencies around the state. Center orientations are
held at the Department of Social Services Community
Care Licensing, 8745 Folsom Blvd. Sacramento, CA.

Funds Child Action, Inc.?
Child Action, Inc. receives funding from the California
State Department of Education, Child Development Division;
the Department of Human Assistance of Sacramento County;
the Sacramento County Office of Education; United Way
and private foundations.
